Getting started with Baudrillard

Question

I'm interested in getting into Baudrillard lit regardless of debate, does anyone have reccomendations as to how to start? I bought sim and sim but would it be better to read annotated versions/intros first?

Read/understand the following:

Nietzsche

Bataille

McLuhan (not key but if you have time)

Barthes (really important)

Then read Bifo's critique of Baudrillard. Bifo is much clearer and uses references that our age group can understand.

Then read Pawlett's "Against Banality" I can email the pdf if you want because its not free anywhere.

Then maybe read Sim and Sim or other actual Baudy literature.

Hmmmmmm I recommend before getting into his lit just reading on what he means when he says words. What I mean by that is that this man can tell you one thing that is so nuanced that your brain will hurt for hours so just try to grasp what he means by Simulacra and his various terms he constantly refers back to. If you have read up like a good boi on Nietszce then you should be able to not lose ur mind in confusion because Baudrillard is just as confusing.

So there is this scene in an Idol Horror anime where a girl who was an idol is no longer seen as herself but as her stagemask named Mima and she goes to her room but relazies its not her room and her idol counterpart Rumi wants to be the new Mima after Mima resigns from being a idol. The scene pans out where Rumi is in Mima’s outfit and Mima is in normal clothes and Mima is visable disturbed and she is faced by Mima (but in a refelction you see Rumi) its a 7 mins scene i wanna use for preformance cause it symbolizes the simulation becoming the new “real” and I need to know how yall would run Preformance Baudrillard.

      Bifo Aff + Kritik
View File If Earl can drop an album I can definitely drop this Bifo File. Big bonus for the wait is that it comes with a 1ac and the outline for a few 2ac blocks to get you started. The affirmative is a critique of European immigration policy and the reactionary responses to migration. The 1ac is constructed entirely with Bifo cards but if you'd like to be more than tangentially related to the topic (since the whole point of the affirmative is to just impact turn whatever the negative says with you big capitalism theory) cutting some cards about the caravan and that whole Hillary Clinton said that Europe should stop migrants to stop white supremacists thing would be a few ways of connecting to ~the topic~.

The rest of the file is just a pretty standard Kritik file. If you're faimilar with my cap K file the whole section of assotred 2nc offense will be pretty faimilar. This strategy of file design is valuable in my opinion because it allows 2n's to think about the debate more whollistcally and generate offense independent from the traditional critique struture. All of the link, impact and alternative's can be written in ways that make them operate like different theoretically based critiques. The biggest advantage of such a dynamic file is that you could read Bifo like it is Deleuze one round and like it's traditional Marxism the next round all with diverse spins and very persuasive link arguments contextualized in unique theories. . I would highly suggest and recommend that you read at least some Bifo before reading this on either side. An in depth base of knowledge is necessary for the execution of such a complex argument and that can only be gained from reading. All of the books are pretty good but if you are short on time or skeptical in your ability to read dense theory, start with futurability (bifo 2017) or the classic after the future (2011). Heroes , mass murder and suicide (bifo 2015) is also very good and probably one of the simplest books conceptually. AND phenemonlgy of the end (bifo 16/15)is probably the most complicated but definitely the most interesting read.

If you have any questions feel free to ask me, enjoy!
